We provide small scale spray dryers in a range of sizes
SiccaDania specialises in both standard and customisable small scale dryers. The small scale spray dryers are targeted for small scale production as well as R&D work and are widely used by companies and universities worldwide.
All SiccaDania small scale spray dryers are available as standard plants. Furthermore, the spray dryers can be designed based on a modular concept with a range of optional items. In this way, each individual plant can be custom designed to match our customers’ individual requirements. The spray drying process is scalable and the SiccaDania Small scale spray dryers are available in many flexible configurations enabling process simulations of larger industrial size spray dryers.
The SiccaDania small scale spray dryers are provided in either a single stage or a multi stage configuration.
Single stage configuration
In single stage configuration, the feed product and the process air are introduced into the top of the drying chamber. Here an instant contact between the atomised feed product and the heated process air takes place and the water evaporates from each droplet. The air and powder are led through the drying chamber to the cyclone for efficient powder separation. The single stage configuration enables the production of single spherical particles.
Multi stage configuration
In multi stage configuration, the feed product and the process air are introduced into the top of the drying chamber. Here an instant contact between the atomised feed product and the heated process air takes place and the water evaporates from each droplet.
For further drying of the powder, an Internal Fluid Bed (IFB) with a separate air supply system is installed below the drying chamber. From this IFB, the powder is discharged whereas the fines are led to the cyclone together with the drying air.
For optimal product utilisation, a fines return system, situated below the cyclone, blows back the fines to the wet atomisation zone at the top of the drying chamber. The multi stage configuration enables the production of dust-free agglomerated particles.
Small but highly efficient spray dryers
All plants are skid-mounted, FAT-tested, and pre-wired which minimise the installation time and the costs.
We offer our customers:
- Multipurpose drying
- Reproducible and scalable R&D drying results
- Small scale production
- Plug-and-Play solutions
- Options for individual customisation
Designed for safety
The spray dryers are produced in sanitary design and include state-of-the-art solutions regarding safety and cleaning. Furthermore, the spray dryers are equipped with sophisticated PLC-based control systems. All parts in contact with the product are made of stainless steel and all elastomers are food grade approved according to the GMP standards.
Trustworthy partnership
At SiccaDania, we have one of the most experienced teams in the industry. Our team has acquired extensive technology know-how from decades of work experience in the process industry. The team members have all, been working for well-known providers of small scale drying technology, before coming to SiccaDania. This guarantees that your plant will meet your expectations both in terms of quality and time of delivery.
We guarantee a fast response time, reliable guidance and easy access to any spare parts you may need in the future.
Find the right drying solution
Are you uncertain about which type of dryer you should choose or whether a small scale spray dryer is the way to proceed? SiccaDania offers the possibility to perform test work/small scale trials in our Innovation Centre in Denmark. This possibility enables our customers to test a drying concept and/or optimise feed characteristics.

FAQ
-
Which utilities are required?
Electricity, compressed air and water. For larger spray dryers it may be cheaper to consider steam or natural gas.
-
What is the difference between single stage spray dryers and multi stage spray dryers?
In single stage spray dryers, all air and powder from the drying chamber are led into a cyclone for separation and discharge. Single stage spray dryers enable the production of single spherical particles. Multi stage spray dryers are equipped with an internal fluid bed installed below the drying chamber. From this fluid bed, the powder is discharged. Under the cyclone, a fines return system is installed leading the fines back to the wet atomisation zone situated at the top of the drying chamber. In this way, multi stage spray dryers enable the production of agglomerated dust-free particles which are easier to dissolve in water.
-
What is the most important information needed to dimension a spray dryer?
The characteristics of the feed product including the solids content and the temperature. The capacity requirements in terms of feed flow per hour, water evaporation rate per hour or powder output per hour. The utilities available on site, the building height and the elevation of the site (m above sea level).
-
Is everything included when I order a small scale spray dryer?
Yes. SiccaDania takes great pride in offering total solutions with everything included. This means a complete feed system, air supply system, drying chamber system, powder explosion protection system, exhaust system, all necessary ductwork within the spray dryer as well as all necessary platforms, stairways and railings – as shown in the datasheets of the different spray dryers. Also, a PLC control system complete with cables/wiring and cable trays is included. No hidden extras. Only the main cable to the control panel and the connections to the utilities are to be supplied by the customer. All parts in contact with the product are made of stainless steel AISI 316 or better. The remaining parts are made of stainless steel AISI 304, which means that no mild steel is used.
-
What about installation?
SiccaDania small scale spray dryers are based on a skid-mounted concept with a large range of modularised options available, enabling our customers to design each dryer to match their exact requirements. The dryers are pre-assembled and FAT-tested in the workshop prior to dispatch and only disassembled in main modules for freight. This concept minimises the installation time and the costs. Typically, the smallest spray dryer can be installed in 1-2 days and the larger small scale spray dryers in 2-3 weeks (depending on the site conditions and the options selected).
